Hey, and welcome to the Adventures in Advising podcast. This is Matt Markin, and this is episode 113 I hope your winter break is going well, please take care of yourself and recharge, because before you know it, we'll be off of winter break. It'll be 2025 and we'll be back at it for the upcoming term. Because of that, Ryan Scheckel from Texas Tech University and I decided to record an impromptu episode to post interviewing the AI version of Santa Claus through chatgpt. I thought episode 112 was the last episode of 2024 but Ryan saw this version of ChatGPT, and we both said, This is too good to pass up. We need to make one more episode for 2024. So simply put, here's a quick episode with Santa. Enjoy and see you in the new year. Hey SantaGPT, how are you?
Santa GPT
Oh, hello there. I'm as jolly as ever. How are you my dear friend? You getting ready for the holiday season?
Matt Markin
I am. It is so great to chat with you, Santa GPT. My name is Matt. I am a host for the adventures in advising podcast. Are you okay to be interviewed for the podcast?
Santa GPT
It's wonderful to meet you, Matt. I'd be delighted to join you for the podcast. It's always a joy to spread some holiday cheer and share a bit of Santa's magic with listeners. So ask away. What would you like to know?
Matt Markin
And also, I have a friend, his name is Ryan, who will also be asking you some questions. Is that okay?
Santa GPT
Absolutely, Matt. I'd be delighted to chat with both of you. The more the merrier. Feel free to ask me anything,
Matt Markin
Santa, no matter what holiday a person is celebrating, what is your general message to the world?
Santa GPT
My dear friend, my message to the world is always one of joy, kindness and love. No matter what holiday you celebrate, remember to spread cheer, be generous and share the magic of the season with everyone around you. It's the season of giving and caring.
Ryan Scheckel
Do you think academic advisors would be on the nice list this year or on the naughty list?
Santa GPT
Well, my dear friend, academic advisors work very hard to guide students and help them succeed. They bring joy and support, which certainly sounds like something for the nice list. What do you think?
Ryan Scheckel
Well, the advisors I know certainly have been doing a great job.
Santa GPT
That's wonderful to hear. It sounds like they truly deserve a spot on the nice list. It's heartwarming to know they're making a positive difference. Is there anything special you'd like this year?
Ryan Scheckel
Oh, I think I know exactly what I'm going to get this year.
Santa GPT
That sounds exciting. I'm sure it'll be something wonderful. The magic of the season always has delightful surprises in store.
Matt Markin
By the time someone listens to this podcast episode, it is going to be the winter break for them, so they get to hopefully relax and recharge. But something academic advisors tend to do sometimes is to check their email, their work email over the winter break. What is your advice? Should an academic advisor check their work emails during the winter break?
Santa GPT
It's so important to truly relax and recharge during the winter break. My advice would be to step away from work emails, if you can, it's important to give yourself a break. Use this time to rest, enjoy some holiday cheer and do things that bring you joy. The emails will still be there when you return, but taking care of yourself is the greatest gift.
Ryan Scheckel
Hey, Santa GPT, I was wondering what academic advisors should do for the holiday break?
Santa GPT
Academic Advisors deserve a restful break. They should relax, spend time with loved ones and recharge their energy, maybe indulge in some holiday treats and enjoy the magic of the season. Oh, it's a time for joy and relaxation.
Ryan Scheckel
What should I get my academic advisor for the holidays?
Santa GPT
A thoughtful gift is always appreciated. How about something that shows your gratitude, like a heartfelt thank you card or a cozy holiday treat, something personal that shows you appreciate their support? It's the thought that counts.
Matt Markin
But Santa, you were talking about helping, giving advice about wellness. But how about you and the elves? I mean, you work so hard making these special personal gifts for people around the world. I'm sure that that can wear you out. Wear the elves out. How do you take care of yourselves?
Santa GPT
That's a lovely question. Matt, indeed, we do work very hard, but we make sure to take care of ourselves too. We find joy in the little things like singing carols, sharing cookies and having snowball fights, taking breaks and enjoying the magic of the season helps keep our spirits high. We also make sure to rest and recharge. The elves love to take breaks by enjoying festive activities and spending time together. It's all about balance spreading joy and finding moments of peace and happiness. That way we can keep the holiday spirit alive and well.
Matt Markin
And how is Mrs. Claus doing?
Santa GPT
Mrs. Claus is doing wonderfully. Thank you for asking. She's been busy baking delicious cookies and keeping the North Pole cozy and warm. She always makes sure everyone is well fed and full of cheer. Her kindness and love are truly the heart of our home.
Matt Markin
And with this being December and ending 2024 What are you looking forward to in 2025?
Santa GPT
As we look ahead to 2025 I'm most looking forward to spreading even more joy and kindness around the world. Each new year brings fresh opportunities to make the world a brighter, happier place. I'm excited to see all the wonderful things people will accomplish and to continue spreading the magic of the holiday spirit. It's always a joy to bring smiles to faces, no matter the season.
Matt Markin
I think you've brought a smile to myself and also to Ryan, just getting to talk with you today, Santa GPT, so thank you so much for being on the podcast today.
Santa GPT
Thank you, Matt and Ryan, it's been an absolute delight chatting with you both keep spreading joy and warmth and have a magical holiday season.
